Detailed Analysis of SSC CHSL Tier 3: Typing Test and Skill Test

In SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination, Typing Test or Skill Test(DEST) also plays a vital role in your Final Selection. After cracking both Tier 1( Written Objective Based Online Test) and Tier 2 (Descriptive Knowledge Test) , you must qualify Typing Test( Qualifying in nature , its marks will not be allotted and not add to final list of marks ).

In today’s scenario, competition is getting tougher and tougher day by day to crack any government exam. Similar condition applied in SSC CHSL Exam. Still there is a misconception among many candidates who cleared both Tier 1 and Tier 2 that Typing Test is just a cakewalk for them. But my dear friends, this is not true if you are not well prepared and do not meet the minimum standard speed required for typing test asked by the Commission.

As we all know in SSC CHSL 2018, Typing Test will be conducted by the Commission on July 8th, 2018. For the candidates who opted for the position of Postal Assistant, LDC(lower Division Clerk), Court Clerk, it is mandatory for them to qualify Tier 3( Typing Test) after cracking both Tier 1 (Objective) and Tier 2(Descriptive) of SSC CHSL.

The Commission will conduct SSC CHSL 2018 typing test exam on July 08, 2018

MINIMUM SPEED REQUIRED IN SSC CHSL TYPING TEST

Minimum Speed required in Typing Test of SSC CHSL differs from English to Hindi.

For the candidates who opted English Language, they have to type 10500 key depressions in One hour. Whereas For the candidates who opted Hindi Language, they have to type 9000 key depressions in One hour.

In other words, we can say for English Typing, you have to type 35 words per minute. Whereas in case of Hindi Typing, you need to type 30 words per minute.

SSC CHSL TYPING TEST DURATION

In real time scenario, the total duration for the typing test is 10 minutes. So, you need to type 350 words in case of English Typing and 300 words in case of Hindi Typing Test in the given duration of 10 minutes. But the Commission will provide 30 minutes to the Visually handicapped Candidates.

An aspirant needs to take either Skill Test or Typing Test not both. An aspirant who opted only for DEO(Data Entry Operator) Position needs to take Skill Test only. On the other hand those who opted for other three positions of Postal Assistant, LDC(lower Division Clerk), Court Clerk need to take Typing test.

Let’s move to their corresponding selection criteria by the Commission.

SSC CHSL 2018 “SKILL TEST” PATTERN :

  • Skill Test is of Qualifying in nature and conducted only in English Language.
  • A printed material in English language is provided to aspirants and they have to write it on their computer.
  • The overall time duration will be of 15 minutes in which candidate has to type 2000 to 2200 keys with speed of approx 8000  key depression per hour.
  • Whereas Visually Handicapped(VH) Candidates will have overall 35 minutes as compared to other candidates.
  • Accuracy also plays a vital role here. So all in all you have to maintain both speed and accuracy in this test.

SSC CHSL 2018 “TYPING TEST” PATTERN :

  • In contrast to Skill Test, Typing Test can be taken both in English and Hindi language. It all depends upon the choice opted by the candidate to take Typing Test.
  • In Typing Test, total time duration will be of 10 minutes whereas for Visually Handicapped Candidates 30 minutes will be allowed.
  • In order to qualify Typing test, Candidate who opted English language have to type at speed of 35 words per minute whereas , Candidate who opted Hindi language have to type at speed of 30 words per minute.
  • A printed paper will be provided to every candidate and  English medium paper will consists of 1750 key depressions whereas Hindi Medium Material comprises 900 key depressions which you have to type within allotted time.

SSC CHSL TYPING TEST MISTAKES:

In order to maintain desired Speed, most of the candidates lack accuracy due to which they even sometimes are not able to qualify even after maintaining a required speed. First of all Let’s see various kinds of mistakes aspirants commit in typing test.

In typing test, there are two main categories on the basis of which marks are deducted. These two categories are as follows :

FULL MISTAKES: If you commit any of the following kind of mistakes, then it counts as Full Mistake:

  1. If you miss or omit a word
  2. If you type a wrong or misspell word
  3. In case you type any word which is not there in the given passage.

HALF MISTAKES: If you commit any of the following kind of mistakes, then it counts as Full Mistake:

  1. when you do not provide a space between two words

For example : Mistake -: “YourWelcome”  Correct -: “Your Welcome”

when you give extra or undesired space in a word or between two words.

For example : Mistake -: “ Y_ou”  Correct -: “You”

2. in case of misspell words

Example : Mistake -: “ gardden” Correct -: “ garden”

3. Using Capital letter at place of small letter and small letter at place of capital letter.

Example : Mistake -: “AppLe” Correct -: “Apple”

HOW TO CALCULATE NUMBER OF MISTAKES

This is calculated to get the Cutoff Analysis of Typing Test.

Calculation of Number of mistakes in Typing Test :

Mistake or Error% = (Total number of Errors/Total no of Key Strokes) X 100
